Crypto, Digital Currency, NFTs, the Blockchain & the Future of Money

  • East Lyme Public Library 39 Society Road Niantic, CT 06357 (map)

Dr. Purba Mukerji, Professor and Chair of Economics at Connecticut College, explains what cryptocurrency and NFTs are and discusses her latest research. Currency has changed form throughout history: from the Gold Standard to the Bretton Woods system to today’s mix of "floating" and "fixed" currencies. But what, exactly, is cryptocurrency (BITCOIN, Ethereum, etc), and is it just a fad or the next step in the evolution of money? Related concepts such as NFTs and the Blockchain will be explored. You will come away with solid knowledge of these new ideas as we watch whether they evolve or die in the struggle to become the future of money!
