Sean Gaskell features songs on the kora, a 21-string harp he first heard performed by Kane Mathis, who became his first teacher and inspired him to travel to the instrument's homeland of Gambia, West Africa, where Sean studied extensively with masters of the kora: Malamini Jobarteh and Moriba Kuyateh. Many songs tell the story of war, hardship, love and loss while revealing the history and fabric of Mande society.
