Matt Landry: 1 Mountain, 100 Summits — Using the Power of Nature to Heal, Console, and Reflect

  • East Lyme Public Library 39 Society Road Niantic, CT 06357 (map)

Few of us have come out of the past few years as the same people. For myself, I needed a catalyst to stoke and ignite the healing process. Hiking—an old friend—was the obvious answer. In the course of a year, I hiked Mt. Wachusett, located in Princeton, MA, to the summit 100 times. The lessons I learned and the process of healing brought me back home to inner peace, acceptance, and understanding. When we hike, we are in awe of the beauty before us and realize that the beauty in front of us is also within us. We learn that time is a healer, and that when we clear our minds, the world around us starts to make sense again. I'll discuss the lessons and science behind why being outside in nature can be your best medicine for a better state of physical and mental health.
